Sneak Peek! | Love in Thailand! | Destination Wedding Photographer

April 21st, 2012

So… let me just start of by saying… I had the most incredible trip of my LIFE… and I owe it all to this amazing couple–James and Mia. These two are the kindest, most open minded, accepting, humble, ______ (insert the most thoughtful adjective you could possibly think of here) couple… I’ve ever met. The [...]

The 2 weeks I experienced in Thailand was by far one of my favorite travel adventures of all time. The chemistry, the love, the people, the location. I honestly couldn’t have dreamt a more perfect scenario…. sighhhhh. So perfect that it took me weeks to get out of vacay hangover mode.

It so happens that I have something like 350 gigs of images to go through from this trip. The funny thing is, I’m not even exaggerating. 6 Total weeks abroad and I was very close to filling up my entire 500 gig drive. Needless to say… it will be awhile before I post any images… but I did; however stumble upon these gems while clearing off my cards for the upcoming weddings this weekend.

Again this is merely scratching the surface.. more to come within the next… eh, decade?

Uh.. before I exit left… I’d like to make a TRL shout out (eh… yes what is that? circa 2000? )…

—to every Australian that I happened to meet. Because of you— I want to move to your country. Amy & Holly– for being awesome travel buddies who shared many a jars of Nutella & Peanut butter, sang “one night in Bangkok” without knowing any additional lyrics to that song, along with “I come from a land down under” whilst incorporating this skit about 1.2 million times. And lastly, I can’t forget to thank Kristi Odom for inviting me to be a part of this dreamy wedding. She is by far one of the most talented, influential, and inspiring people that I’ve been so lucky to know. I probably wouldn’t have gone down the path that I have if it weren’t for her. So I can honestly say I owe my wedding photography career to this woman.

… alright Carson you can have mic back.

Enjoy!

Art Walk is monthly occasion held by the small business owners of Marietta Square. The first Friday of Summer and Fall months— Artists are encouraged to display their craft.

Be Yoga kindly asked if I was interested— and I could not resist the opportunity to celebrate my craft among my peers, local artists, and craftsmen, especially since the square is seemingly my home away from home. On any given day, you can find me working at Cool Beans, working out Crossfit Square, grabbing a bite at Marietta Pizza Company or Thaicoon, or doing pilates at Be Yoga. With that said– I couldn’t find a more supportive environment to share my world and display my perspective on life.

To add an interactive element to the gallery, Adrianne and I (wo)manned the CrazyBooth.

Here are a few photos form the booth!

Thanks Be, for allowing me to share my images with the community, Adrianne for saving my life, and everyone for stopping by!!!!! It would not have been such a great success with out all of you!

Personal | Flight Lessons! | Atlanta Photographer

April 13th, 2011

Last weekend my dad took his first flight lesson! Being involved with airplanes most of his life, it seemed like the perfect Birthday gift! … this is considering the thought of being thousands of feet in the air… in something that resembles a sardine can.

So… After a long week at WPPI— that largest photography convention… IN THE WORLD, my brain exploded from all the information along with my lungs from being sick. In addition to all the amazing things I learned and the ridiculous amount of money I spent on random gadgets, tools, informational packets, workshops, contracts, etc… I also purchased a lovely new blog layout… which I am in love with. Thank you Tofurious to your contribution to society… and creating this lovely layout.

So, with that said, I am going to keep tumblr for my personal rants… and this will be my new business blog. Enjoy!

First and foremost– do you ladies want barebones, decoration-less, weddings? People relate to what they see… And if you only feature that– those are the type of clients you will get. It’s cyclical. Break the cycle and get the type of clients you want.

Maybe it’s because I am sooooo guilty of the bile colored filters or because I’m a sucker for fields and fun details… But I can’t say I fully agree with her rant. Yes, all weddings are all special and beloved. But you don’t see instyle, cosmo, and glamour feature plain jeans and a white t-shirt in their editorials.

Everyone wears it. They’re comfortable and those are real clothes that all people have in their wardrobe…but that’s not what inspiration blogs are for. It’s like fashion. Those publications are based on what’s ‘in’ today.

I like looking back at my parent’s wedding photos. Everything is cohesive. The style, the faded old feel of their polaroids, and their coy smiles. It fits. That image embodies who they were in that era, and I LOVE it.

My clients might cringe 10 years down the road when they look back at those ‘vintage’ edits…. And their aviator sunglasses… But the overall image is a snapshot of who they are at that moment in time. It includes an element of capturing the couples’ style and personality now— just as the photographer they hire in some way, shape, or form represents their own personal style… Because God knows they could’ve hired any of the dime a dozen photographers they searched via google.

I’m not saying give in to every style or ‘fad’ or sell your soul to be successful… but you do have to be adaptable to who and what your demand is or what you want your demand to be. Be clear, and of course, do so without compromising being true to your ethics, your art, and your own personal style.

When it comes down to it– everyone is entitled to their own opinion– naysayers and all. Which is why they say–to each their own. But if you don’t care for skinny jeans or high-waisted pencil skirts, that’s cool–but don’t get your panties in a wad when Instyle rejects you, your mom jeans and wife-beater.
